The International Organisation of Vine and Wine released its 2025 global overview in May 2026. The report is useful because it places production, consumption, and international trade in one frame rather than turning any single estimate into a trend story.
What to track together
OIV describes a third consecutive low global vintage, continuing pressure on consumption in mature markets, and lower trade volume and value during 2025. At the same time, global trade value remained above its pre-pandemic level. Climate events affected production in both hemispheres, while tariffs and wider economic pressure influenced trade and demand.
The reporting idea is not “wine is up” or “wine is down.” It is to ask which market, which measure, which baseline, and which part of the supply chain a number describes. The next useful layer would connect the global overview to regional harvest data and current retail behaviour.
