Gunner Mocktail Recipe

A Gunner mocktail is a zesty, gingery, non-alcoholic cocktail that is especially popular in Hong Kong. It's a refreshing blend of ginger beer, ginger ale, lime juice and angostura bitters, making it perfect for social occasions when you want something different.

Ingredients

  • 200 ml Ginger Beer
  • 200 ml Ginger Ale
  • Juice of half a Lime
  • Two dashes of Angostura Bitters
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime slice for garnish

Preparation

  • Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour the ginger beer and ginger ale into the glass.
  • Add the lime juice.
  • Add two dashes of Angostura Bitters.
  • Stir well to mix all the ingredients.

  • Serve the Gunner Mocktail immediately after preparing. It's perfect for any time of day, but particularly enjoyable on a hot afternoon. The drink is very versatile and can be served with finger foods, sandwiches or even spicy dishes.

Tips

The Gunner Mocktail apparently originated in the 1860s at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, to serve to those wanting a refreshing non-alcoholic option. Its popularity spread through the British empire and still remains a favourite in many former British territories.
